S. R. KULKARNI PASSES AWAY

Veteran trade union, a freedom fighter, founder of Transport and dock Workers Union, Mumbai and All India Port and Dock Workers Federation who chaired the Federation Since 1962, a Trustee of Mumbai Port Trust for more than 60 years. SHRI KRISHNA RAMCHANDRA KULKARNI passed away on 19th December, 2016.at the age of 89 years.

Born on 25th March 1927 at Dhulia (Erstwhile West Khandes). Comrade Kulkarni  was a ;;known patriot who participated in Quit India Movement under the leadership of sane Guru in 1942 when he was just 15 years, was arrested and imprisoned for 9 months and sent to Yarwada Jail.

He joined The Radical Democratic party of late Shri M.N.Roy, came into contact with late Shri P.D. Mello and entered the trade union movement in Mumbai Docks in 1946.

Shri Kulkarni founded Air India Employees Guild in 1972. He remained President of India Security Press Mazdoor Sangh, Nasik Road for quite long time. He remained President for Hind Mazdoor Sabha.

He was elected as Regional Chair, Asia-Pacific Region Dockers Section in International Transport Workers Federation (ITF). He was member of various Commissions and Committees appointed by the State and Central Government notably the Major Ports Commission, Central Wage Board for Port and dock Workers.

He was a widely travelled person who visited USA, USSR, West German, France, U.K., Vienna and various other countries. He was very active in getting the Alexandra Dock, Mumbai Port renamed as Indira Dock.

He was associated with several unions in private sector such as National Rayon Corporation, Kalyan Baroda Rayon Corporation, Udhna, Indian Naval Employees Union, Mumbai, Unite Bargemen’s Association. Goa. He remained Trustee of Goa Port Trust also for several years.

His demise is irreparable loss to the entire working class. Hind Mazdoor Sabha pays respectful homage to the departed leader, Pray Almighty to rest his soul in peace and to give strength to his family to bear this loss.

VETERAN TRADE UNION LEADER SHARAD RAO NO MORE

Mumbai - September 1stVeteran trade union leader of Mumbai, Ex President and Adviser, Hind Mazdoor Sabha Comrade Sharad Rao passed away on 1st September, 2016 around 4 P.M. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November, 2014 and was undergoing treatment.

Comrade Rao headed a number of Unions in Mumbai for decades prominent among those are BrihanMumbai Electric Supply and Transport Union, Mumbai Auto Rikshawmen’s Union and dozen other trade unions. He headed Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat which was merged with Hind Mazdoor Sabha on 13th October, 2010. He became the President of Hind Mazdoor Sabha.

Comrade Harbhajan Singh Sidhu, General Secretary, Hind Mazdoor Sabha after hearing the said news of demise of Comrade Rao held a condolence meeting and paid rich tributes to the late veteran leader, prayed God to rest his soul in peace and to give courage to his family to bear the loss. He said demise of Comrade Sharad Rao was an irreparable loss not only to the workers of Mumbai or Maharashtra but for entire working class.

The Funeral was attended by large number of senior leaders from different walks of life. Comrade Sidhu also attended the funeral.
